KRATZERVILLE - As Shikellamy School District mourns the death of one of their own in a tragic accident last week, the Selinsgrove Area School District suffered the loss of a graduate Monday morning.
Robert Hill, 20, a 2010 graduate of Selinsgrove, was killed in a one-vehicle accident when the car he was driving left the roadway and struck a telephone pole and embankment at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to state police at Selinsgrove.
Trooper Timothy Nicklas reported Hill was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:16 a.m., approximately 45 minutes after the accident occurred on Route 204, just south of Kratzerville in Jackson Township, Snyder County.
Police said Hill was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a left curve in the road.
He traveled across the southbound lane, off the roadway and struck a pole with the driver's side of the car, police reported.
The vehicle continued straight and then struck an embankment, causing the car to spin counterclockwise until it came to rest in the southbound lane facing south, police reported.
He was not wearing his seat belt, police said.
Route 204 was closed for approximately two hours, police said.
State police were assisted by the Kratzerville Fire Department and DH&L rescue and ambulance, Selinsgrove.
The accident comes two days after Travis Tillett, a Shikellamy student, died Saturday night at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from injuries sustained in a Friday morning accident.
Tillett was one of four students involved in the 8:45 a.m. crash on Route 304, near Arrowhead Road, as the students headed to SUN Area Technical Institute for classes.
The two unrelated accidents occurred approximately five miles apart.
In the wake of the accident, Shikellamy school officials postponed Friday's night varsity football game against Selinsgrove. That game was played at 7 p.m. Monday.
