TREVORTON - Renowned dog expert Cesar Millan visited Trevorton Elementary School, the grand prize winner in the Mutt-i-grees America Adopts PSA (public service announcement) Contest.
The contest was a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging Americans to adopt shelter pets, known as Mutt-i-grees. As grand prize winners, Trevorton Elementary School won a trip to New York City to receive the $10,000 grant, followed by a school visit from Cesar Millan and a premiere of its PSA on Nat Geo WILD, the network on which "The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan" airs.
The contest reflects the foundation of the Mutt-i-grees curriculum, an innovative
educational program that promotes the natural affinity between children and animals and teaches children to be calm, confident and caring. Developed by the North Shire Animal League America in collaboration with Yale University School of the 21st Century, the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum is funded=by the Millan Foundation.
"Line Mountain School District is proud of Jessie Morgan's accomplishments. She developed the public service announcement through her own initiative and interests. Her creative and musical talents have benefitted the entire elementary population, "said Jeanne Menko, principal of Trevorton Elementary School. "She has shown that big accomplishments can be made in small rural school districts."
"We received so many exceptional public service announcement entries from around the country in the "Mutt-i-grees" America Adopts" PSA contest and the grand-prize winning entry from Trevorton Elementary School really touched the judges' hearts the most," said John Stevenson, president of North Shore Animal League America. "Through images, storytelling and an original song performed by Jessie Morgan, the PSA sincerely conveyed the importance of adopting from an animal shelter. We congratulate Trevorton Elementary School and thank the teachers and students for helping to save animals' lives."
