DANVILLE - Tyler Kevin Holleran, a senior at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, and Tara Demko, a senior at Mount Carmel Area High School, were among 37 outstanding high school students honored at the annual Servant Leadership Award Program on Oct. 28 in the Basilica at SS Cyril and Methodius Academy.
The juniors and seniors earned their awards for demonstrating servant leadership in their parish, school and community and staying active in their faith and parish after receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Holleran, a son of Dennis and Kathy Holleran, Den-Mar Gardens, and Demko, a daughter of Tom and Peggy Demko, Kulpmont, were nominated for their awards by their pastor, the Rev. Andrew Stahmer, of Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont, and parish director of religious education Joette Foris.
Holleran is an altar server, assists at the parish bingo and summer picnic, and helps clean the parish cemetery. At Lourdes, he is a member of the Respect Life Committee, SADD, National Honor Society and boys service club, and plays football and basketball. He also is a student council officer and student ambassador.
Holleran volunteers for Geisinger Children's Miracle Network and Special Olympics and has been a faithful parish volunteer since first grade.
Demko is a choir member and altar server, and assists at various parish functions, including the church picnic.
At Mount Carmel Area, she is a member of the Interact Club and serves as a band and chorus officer. She is the captain of the soccer team and works to keep Christ at the center of her life by being a faithful servant.
