TREVORTON - A Shamokin man was injured in a ATV crash Friday evening, hitting his head off the road after the vehicle he was riding flipped over.
A portion of Route 225 was closed for 90 minutes while investigators looked into the accident that critically injured Bradley Bollinger, 34, of Shamokin.
Bollinger was airlifted from the scene by Life Flight helicopter for treatment at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. No condition was available Friday evening from a nursing supervisor.
State police at Stonington reported Bollinger was riding a Polaris Trailblazer ATV south on Route 225 that was being towed by his girlfriend, Barbara Shirk, 34, of Shamokin, in a 2003 Dodge Ram.
Shirk turned the Ram onto Sunshine Road and Bollinger lost control of the ATV, causing the nylon towing strap to tear.
The Trailblazer then rolled over, and Bollinger was thrown off the ATV, hitting his head off the macadam. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Police said both drivers will be cited for careless driving.
Assisting police at the scene were AREA Services to transfer the patient to Life Flight, members of the Trevorton Fire Company and Coal Township Fire and Rescue.
