Work set this week on I-80
MONTOURSVILLE - Lane restrictions/closures in the I-80 work zone around Mifflinville in Columbia County next week include the following:
- Monday, the westbound left lane will be closed between miles 242 and 241 (Mifflinville and Berwick exits) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in order to remove asphalt waste in the median. The contractor is performing this work at this time due to the ground being frozen, which will minimize mud being tracked onto the highway.
The I-80 westbound Mifflinville on-ramp remains closed. This is due to merging traffic safety concerns in the narrowed two-lane area. The ramp detour is signed and remains in effect.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check interstate traffic conditions before heading out.
Kindergarten, Pre-K registration set
MOUNT CARMEL - Packets for registration for Pre-K Counts and kindergarten for the Mount Carmel Area School District can be picked up in the elementary school office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. All forms and information will be provided in the packet.
Children entering Pre-K Counts must be 4 years old by Sept. 1. Students must meet the federal guidelines of the Pre-K Counts grant.
Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. All forms and information must be complete before a child is registered; once completed, parents or guardians can call the office for an appointment.
Appointment dates are: Wednesday, Feb. 20; Tuesday, March 26, and Tuesday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contact the elementary school office at 339-1500 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. with questions.
