WEST BUFFALO TOWNSHIP - A Mifflinburg man was flown to Geisinger Medical Center for treatment following a crash involving a garbage truck Wednesday morning.
Lennie C. Boop, 38, of Mifflinburg, suffered a major head injury following the 8:22 a.m. crash on Buffalo Road, one-half mile east of Walbash Road in this Union County township. A Geisinger spokesperson confirmed at 3:30 p.m. Boop was at the hospital and being treated. No condition report was available.
State police at Milton report a 2002 Mack garbage truck, owned by Waste Management of Central Pa. and driven by Michael T. Derr, 52, of Shamokin, was stopped on Buffalo Road, also known as Route 192, facing east and picking up garbage. Boop, driving a 2005 Chrysler Sebring, was traveling east on Buffalo Road and struck the back of the garbage truck, police said.
A passenger in the Mack truck, Kenneth C. Zweizig, 57, of Lavelle, was standing at the back of the truck, throwing garbage. He was able to get out of the way of the Sebring, police said.
Boop's vehicle suffered major front end damage and had to be towed from the scene. Derr and Zweizig were uninjured in the crash. The truck sustained minor damage.
Assisting police at the scene were members of the Mifflinburg Fire and Ambulance.
