God's Chuckwagon pauses until March
God's Chuckwagon, a group of volunteers who set up in Mount Carmel and Shamokin downtowns once a week to provide free food to the needy, is shutting down temporarily. The service will resume March 4 in Mount Carmel and March 5 in Shamokin.
Pastor James Bowers cited health reasons. He also noted concern for volunteers and the recipients who risk cold and foul weather to come out each week.
God's Chuckwagon provides meals from 4 to 6 p.m. each Monday at Oak and Fourth streets, Mount Carmel, and during the same times on Tuesdays along Independence Street near the WIC office in Shamokin.
