Water conservation workshop today
SUNBURY - The Penn State Master Gardeners of Northumberland and Snyder counties will be presenting a water conservation program at 1 p.m. today at the Degenstein Library, 40 S. Fifth St.
Master gardeners will do a live demonstration on how to make a rain barrel, which will be given away as a door prize. They will also talk about installing a rain garden.
'Community Day' set in borough
MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Police Department will sponsor its first Community Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Town Park. Rain date is May 25.
"With the help of a devoted support staff, we are looking to make this a yearly event in the community," said Police Chief Todd Owens. Owens said the event will be held in conjunction with "Police Week." At the end of the day, a memorial service will be held for Peter Kozlowski, a borough police officer killed in the line of duty Aug. 9, 1921, while handling a domestic violence call.
Community Day will feature many events for children as well as police demonstrations and military displays.
Owens said plans are being made to have a police vehicle display with trophies presented to the best appearing vehicles.
