GOWEN CITY - A 21-year-old New Jersey man was injured after his all-terrain vehicle collided with a passenger car Sunday afternoon in West Cameron Township.
Matthew J. Moore, of Lindenwold, told state police at Stonington he was stopped on a Yamaha Grizzly on the south berm on Upper Road (Route 2044), about three miles west of Gowen City, to look at a buggy that was for sale. He said he attempted a U-turn to drive west and, in doing so, drove into the eastbound path of a 2011 Cadillac CTS driven by Paul D. McNutt, 70, of Hilltown.
The ATV collided broadside with the car's front end. A witness said the impact sent Moore airborne and he landed on the road. He was not wearing a helmet.
Moore limped about the scene and appeared in pain. Emergency responders checked his vital signs and provided him with ice packs, but Moore refused further treatment. His family, who owns a property near where the accident occurred, picked him up at the scene and drove the ATV away in the bed of a pickup.
Neither McNutt nor a passenger, his wife, Elizabeth, 61, were injured. Their vehicle sustained front-end damage and was driven from the scene.
The accident occurred about 3:50 p.m., and Life Flight helicopter was initially placed on standby.
Assisting police were members of East Cameron Township and Trevorton fire companies and Trevorton Ambulance.
Police said various vehicle code violations "appear evident" against Moore.
