COAL TOWNSHIP - The 37-year-old Shamokin man killed Sunday after crashing a dirt bike was not wearing a helmet, according to the Northumberland County coroner.
James F. Kelley said Monday that Malcolm C. Walburn, of 234 S. Franklin St., died of blunt force trauma to the head. His death was an accident.
Walburn was riding a 2004 Honda off-road motorcycle shortly after 7 p.m. along a dirt road known locally as "Mile Road" when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He was thrown to the ground.
Kelley pronounced Walburn dead at the scene.
The accident occurred west of Trevorton Road (Route 225) and north of the 600 block of North First Street, Shamokin. Mile Road has an access point along Trevorton Road near the Cameron Bridge and is used as a route for heavy mining equipment.
