The following churches will be holding Ash Wednesday services today to celebrate the beginning of the Lenten season.
All Saints
An Ash Wednesday service with Communion will be held at 10 a.m. at All Saints Evangelical Lutheran Church, 12th and Scott streets, Kulpmont.
Grace Evangelical and St. Paul Lutheran
The community is invited to join the congregations of Grace and St. Paul Lutheran churches for a joint Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, West Chestnut Street, Shamokin. The Rev. David M. Byerly, pastor of both congregations, will preside and preach, offering ashes to all who wish to receive them.
Participants in the service include Ron Weller, worship assistant; Shelly Faust, cantor; Austin Joraskie, acolyte; Eric Joraskie, crucifer; Mr. and Mrs. William Hoffa, communion bearers, and Jeanne Hoffa, Tonia Adams, Beverly Deitz, Fran Hand, Nancy Joraskie, Treva Madison, and Jeanne Romanic, ushers. Walter Boyer is the organist.
Salem United Church of Christ
Ash Wednesday service will be held at Salem United Church of Christ, 1300 W. Pine St., Coal Township, with Holy Communion and the disbursement of ashes by the Rev. Jean Eckrod, pastor.
Participants in the service include Suzzette Steinhart, lay leader; Carolyn Weaver, organist; council members, Communion assistants; Salem Choir, anthem; Judie Zabawsky, choir director and accompanist.
