Advisory board to meet

SUNBURY - The Northumberland County Drug and Alcohol Program Advisory Board will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Human Services Building, 217 N. Center St. There will be an overview for the upcoming training schedule.

Scholarship deadline approaching

MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area Athletic Alumni Association (MC4A) reminds Mount Carmel Area High School graduates who are presently attending an institution of higher learning, such as college or trade school, that the deadline to apply for the MC4A scholarships is July 15.

The association will award six $2,000 scholarships to the winners of a lottery-style drawing on Aug. 12 at the annual scholarship awards dinner. Winners with parents as members will have their scholarship increased to $2,500.

Winners will be selected from qualified college students who submitted an application and a higher education transcript.

Only college students who apply will be entered into the lottery drawing.

Free concert planned

SUNBURY - The Sunbury City Band will be hosting a free concert at 7 p.m. July 15 in Cameron Park. All are welcome and encouraged to bring lawnchairs.

Himmel's Country Festival Aug. 3

DORNSIFE - A variety of musical entertainers and skilled crafters, along with plenty of home-cooked food, is scheduled for the annual Himmel's Country Festival that starts at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Himmel's Church Grove along the Schwaben Creek.

Food will be served all day long beginning at 7 a.m. and musical entertainers will take the grove stage at 10 a.m.

There will be a train display in the Boy Scout building. There will be a used book sale, bake sale, antique tractor and vehicle parade at 4 p.m. and kids' games, including a duck derby, on the creek. Also, returning this year is the Miss Himmel's contest.

Breakfast will include ham, eggs, home fries, fried mush and more. Lunch begins at 11 a.m. and includes everything from pizza to chicken breast sandwiches, haluski and crick tea. Dinner features pot pie starting at 4 p.m.

Other highlights on the festival menu include homemade ice cream with fresh peach topping, kettle ham and bean soup and kettle-cooked potato chips, all made on site.
