Katona recognized at FBLA-PBL conference

An Overlook man was recognized at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Conference at the Hilton Anaheim (Calif.) June 22 to 25.

John Katona, a 2013 graduate of Bloomsburg University, competed in Accounting for Professionals and brought home a seventh place award. The event, including two objective tests and one production test, provides recognition for PBL members who demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of accounting, tax and auditing principles.

Katona received the national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence on June 25.

The award was part of a comprehensive competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL. Individuals, state teams and local chapters were encouraged to compete in any of the more than 50 different representing a range of activities and the business and leadership development focus of FBLA-PBL. Winners of these highly competitive and prestigious awards were selected from among FBLA-PBL's membership of 250,000 students and advisers.

The largest and oldest student business organization, FBLA-PBL hosted conference participants from around the country and the world for the conference and FBLA-PBL Institute for Leaders.

FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit education association with a quarter-million members and advisers in 12,000 chartered middle school, high school and college chapters worldwide. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. The association is headquartered in Reston, Va.

Katona graduated magna cum laude from Bloomsburg with a degree in accounting and a Spanish minor. He is a son of Tim Katona, Cary, N.C., and Barbara Katona, Glen Ellen, Calif., and a grandson of Betty Katona, Kulpmont.
