Cecilian Club

SHAMOKIN - The Cecilian Club's February meeting was held at the First United Methodist Church. Barbara Silliman, president, presided over the business meeting.

Applications have been sent to area schools for the scholarship given by the club. Seniors who will be starting college next year, and majoring in music, are eligible to apply. Music teachers in all area schools have the necessary information for applicants.

Club members have again been asked to help provide music for the community Good Friday service sponsored by the Shamokin Area Ministerium. This year they are also looking for instrumental music for use during brief times of meditation.

After the business meeting, the group sang the hymn, "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," by Zundel with Bonny Klinger accompanying on the piano. Marily Stasney presented an inspirational reading from Daily Guideposts.

The evening's program, "Do-It Duets," followed. The opening number was a vocal duet, with Carol Ellis and Charlene Pell, accompanied by Grethel Vinup, sang Mendelsohn's "I Waited for the Lord." Mary Anne Miller and Krista Breeding played Mozart's "Duet Based on Sonata in C," on clarinets.

Grace Stank and Carolyn Weaver, accompanied by Klinger, sang "Bendemeer's Stream," an Irish melody arranged by Salter. A flute duet, performed by Maxine Harvey and Nan Weller, accompanied by Klinger on the piano, played "Sheep May Safely Graze," by Bach.

Margaret Morris and Martha Lynch, accompanied by Carolyn Weaver, sang "One Song," by Perry. Mary Anne Stump and Vinup followed with a piano duet, as they played "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing," by Ferrante and Teicher.

A duet with Morris on piano and Noriene Ladd on organ played "My Heart Ever Faithful," by Bach, arranged by Kohlmann. The program concluded with Klinger and Irvin Liachowitz playing a piano duet, "Sonata No. 1 for Four Hands," by Mozart.

The next regular meeting will be March 12 at the First Presbyterian Church.
