STRONG - Two minor injuries were reported in an accident Tuesday morning on Route 54 in front of Midway Performance near a construction zone.
Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Daniel Politza reported Margaret Mooney, 48, of Lehighton, was driving a red 2011 Ford Ranger truck west on Route 54 at 10:33 a.m. when she got confused about the traffic pattern due to road construction nearby. Police said Mooney attempted to turn left into a parking lot at Midway Performance, but drove her truck into the path of a silver 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier driven east on Route 54 by Michael Straka, 18, of Pottsville, causing a collision.
Straka and his passenger, Misty Sewinsky, 21, of Gilberton, complained of head and neck pain and were transported by AREA Services Ambulance to a local hospital. Mooney escaped injury.
The car was towed by Joe's Auto Body. The truck was pushed off the highway into the parking lot at Midway Performance near Arcos Road.
The scene was cleared at 11:18 a.m.
Politza is continuing his investigation.
Assisting police at the scene were Mount Carmel Area Rescue Squad, AREA Services and members of Strong Fire Company.
