Diverting drainage on roads prohibited
With the winter season here, PennDOT and the Pennsylvania State Police would like to remind all property owners not to direct drainage toward or onto public roadways.
With the recent flooding in the area and the high groundwater table, many home and business owners have relied on sump pumps to keep their basements and businesses dry. They are prohibited from pumping the water onto roadways. All pipes and hoses draining to state roadways should be removed immediately.
Excess water that drains onto the highway can freeze, causing unexpected icy spots and potential driving hazards.
Bloomsburg man in Rose Parade
PASADENA, Calif. - A Bloomsburg man will be featured on the Donate Life float in the 123rd Rose Parade, the marquee event of the 2012 Tournament of Roses.
Joey Ianiero, 23, of Bloomsburg, will share his Rose Bowl experiences on Twitter [ako1] on behalf of Geisinger Medical Center, where he was an orthopedic patient after injuring his knee in 2008.
Ianiero always dreamed of playing college baseball, with the hopes of making it to the major leagues, but in 2008, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) and meniscus - also known as the "unhappy triad."
Ianiero's knee was repaired using the Achilles tendon of a deceased donor from Sherman, Tex. The surgery allowed Ianiero to return to baseball four months later.
The parade will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, and will be broadcast on ABC, Hallmark Channel, HGTV and NBC.
Ianiero's trip updates will be found at www.twitter.com. Just search #JoeyIaniero.
His trip is sponsored by the Musculoskeletal Foundation.
