MCKEANSBURG - A second person died Thursday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident the day before in this Schuylkill County village in East Brunswick Township.
State police at Frackville said John J. Egan, 84, of New Philadelphia, driver of a Lincoln Town Car, died Thursday. A passenger, Joyce Dowling, 81, also from New Philadelphia, was killed Wednesday.
John Schrader, 61, of New Ringgold, the driver of the second vehicle, a Ford van, was in "good" condition Thursday, according to a representative with the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.
Trooper Andrew Letcavage of state police at Frackville said the 4:45 p.m. accident happened as John Egan failed to yield to traffic while traveling north on Market Street and his car was struck broadside by Schrader, who was was traveling west on Chestnut Street (Route 443.)
The accident is still under investigation, according to a police report.
Some neighbors have said concerns about the intersection need addressed. Sean Brown, spokesman for PennDOT District 5, Allentown, said the average daily traffic on Route 443 at that intersection is 2,792 vehicles, or a "fair amount," he said.
Supervisor Chairman Jeffrey A. Faust said Thursday speed is an issue along Route 443 and also nearby Route 895.
"In my opinion, motorists do travel a little faster than what's posted on Route 443," he said.
