Students to perform at jazz festival
MANDATA - Three students from Mount Carmel Area High School qualified for the annual PMEA District 8 Jazz Festival to be held today at Line Mountain Junior-Senior High School.
Sophomores Luke Duceman, baritone sax, and Nicole Brosius, bass guitar, will perform with the jazz band under the direction of Dr. Joshua Davis, professor at Susquehanna University.
Sophomore Jessica Pachuski will participate with the jazz choir as an alto under the direction of Dr. Sheryl Monkelien, professor at Mansfield University.
Auditioning for the band requires a recorded performance of a pre-selected solo and a short improvisation excerpt, which are both later judged. Auditioning for the jazz choir requires a recorded audition of scales, two musical excerpts, and a scat solo.
Final week of street sweeping
COAL TOWNSHIP - Following is the schedule for the final week of street sweeping in the township:
Monday - morning, north side of Fern Street from Maple to Jackson and north side of Chestnut from Laurel Street to Park Avenue; afternoon, south side of Fern Street from Maple to Jackson and south side of Chestnut from Laurel to Park Avenue.
Tuesday - morning, north side of Willow Street from Oak to Fir and north side of Wood from Laurel to Jackson; afternoon, south side of Willow Street from Oak to Fir and south side of Wood from Laurel to Jackson.
ACT auditions changed
MOUNT CARMEL - Auditions for the Anthracite Citizens Theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz" will now be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in the choral room of the Mount Carmel Area Junior-Senior High School.
