MOUNT CARMEL - Samantha Yuschock has been chosen to represent Mount Carmel Area High School and her community as a candidate for Laurel Queen. She will be participating in the 71st Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival this Saturday through Sunday, June 17, in Wellsboro.
Yuschoch, a daughter of Susan Serovich and Jon Yuschock, has played softball, volleyball and powder puff football. She has been in the operetta, chorus, symphonic/marching band, jazz band and show choir. She has been a member of French club, art club, science olympiad, pep club, Students Against Destructive Decisions and peer mediation. She has served in student government, and has earned recognition for her musical and academic abilities and achievements.
Yuschock plans to attend Bloomsburg University to study nursing, with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse.
The queen candidates gather Friday, June 15, on the steps of the Tioga County Courthouse for the official welcome. At 7:30 that evening, they participate in the Queen's Preview at the Deane Center for the Performing Arts with Tioga County's own Sadie Green Sales Jug Band providing the entertainment. Queen candidates ride on professionally designed floats during the Laurel Festival Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16. The candidates return to the Deane Center for the coronation that evening at 8 p.m.
The festival begins this Friday with Family Day/Children's Health Fair and continues throughout the week with a pet parade, music, a juried arts and crafts fair, the International Street of Foods and a carnival.
