MOUNT CARMEL - The following preliminary hearings took place Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh A. Jones. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Monday, Aug. 27, in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n Benjamin J. Kehler, 47, of 300 S. Maple St., Apt. 4, Mount Carmel, waived a charge of unauthorized use of an automobile or other vehicle during his preliminary hearing.
Kehler was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Cpl. Christopher Buhay following a May 15 incident when Kehler allegedly used a car owned by his ex-girlfriend, Cassandra James, and refused to bring it back to her.
n Charges of driving under the influence, accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle or property, and careless driving were waived to court by Michael S. Bernatowicz, 57, of 233 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel.
Bernatowicz was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Cpl. Christopher Buhay following a May 24 accident near his home.
n Michael J. Dewald, 18, of 333 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel, waived charges of driving under the influence of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license and a turning violation during his hearing.
Mount Carmel Township Police Officer Daniel Politza filed the charges related to an April 21 traffic stop on Route 61 near FNB Bank in Atlas.
n Charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to possess a driver's license, failure to possess a registration card and restrictions on alcoholic beverages were waived to court by Jamie Cousentino, 36, of 322 S. Market St., Elysburg.
Kulpmont Police Patrolman Michael Pitcavage filed the charges following an April 28 incident in the 500 block of Chestnut Street, Kulpmont.
n Jacob R. Guss, 19, of 301 S. Spruce St., Mount Carmel, waived charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia during his hearing before Jones.

n Melanie J. Guinther, 31, of 244 S. Beech St., Mount Carmel, waived charges of robbery, burglary, criminal trespass, aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, two counts of simple assault and three counts of possession of a controlled substance in her hearing.
Guinther was charged by Ralpho Township Police Patrolman Chris Dailey following a robbery at a Mountain Road home in Paxinos on June 2.
n Charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle were waived to court by Charles A. Klischer, 29, of 244 S. Oak St., Mount Carmel.
Klischer was charged by Mount Carmel Borough Police Jason Drumheller following an incident at 2:20 a.m. June 10 in the 200 block of East Water Street when Klischer was found rummaging through another person's vehicle. The victim later found that a winning lottery ticket and prescription pills missing from the vehicle.
