Movie in the park to be held Saturday

ATLAS - The Atlas Fire Company Ladies Auxillary will host the second annual "Movie in the Park" at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Atlas Fire Company gazebo. Everyone is invited to attend free of charge to see "The Smurfs."

Bring lawn chairs and blankets; there will be food and refreshments for purchase.

Free radon tests available

WILKES-BARRE - Free home radon test kits are available to Northumberland County residents.

The kits are also offered to residents of Bradford, Clinton, Lycoming, Potter, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Tioga counties.

They're available through a $75,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to the American Lung Association.

The testing is part of a three-year, community-based program ALA sponsors to promote radon awareness in Pennsylvania.

Residents who wish to obtain a kit can go to www.lunginfo.org/freeradonkit.

Victorian tea, fashion show planned

LEWISBURG - Slifer House Museum will host a Victorian tea and fashion show from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the museum, 80 Magnolia Drive, on the campus of RiverWoods.

Iced tea and hors d'oeuvres will be served while more than 20 period gowns are displayed in an outdoor, shaded fashion show by Joy Mertz of Northumberland.

In the event of rain, the event will take place inside.

Seats cost $20, and all funds will support the museum and its programming. Seating is limited and reservations must be made in advance by calling the museum at 524-2245.
