Two regional airports receive grants
HARRISBURG - Two regional airports were among nine across the state announced Thursday as recipients of a total of $10 million in grant funding for site improvements.
The grants, distributed through the Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program, leverage more than $12 million in matching funds.
The Bloomsburg Municipal Airport was awarded $500,000 to rehabilitate an airport building, including replacing electrical wiring and the heating system. The Schuylkill County/Joe Zerbey Airport was awarded $300,000 to construct a hangar.
Be music department's guest
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area Middle/High School music department will present a "Meet the Characters" event at 9:30 a.m. March 24 at the high school to promote this year's spring musical, "Beauty and the Beast."
The public is invited.
The musical's cast will be dressed in full costume and be in character for the event.
Dining with Diabetes class set for April
COAL TOWNSHIP - Penn State Extension will hold Dining with Diabetes, a program for adults with diabetes and their families, in the Coal Township High Rise community room, 101 N. Ash St. in April.
The classes offer healthy meal planning, cooking demonstrations, and hands-on food preparation, class discussions, and new physical activity choices.
Registered Dietitian Lynn James, will lead discussions on planning healthy meals the whole family can enjoy; keeping track of fiber, carbohydrates and fats; the use of sweeteners, and physical activitiles for all fitness levels.
Classes are offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, 20 and 27 and May 4. A follow-up class will be held at 1 p.m. July 13. Lab tests will be offered to measure HbA1c.
In addition to class handouts and test results, participants also receive an exercise DVD, resistance bands, Joslin Diabetes Center educational materials, complete collection of Dining with Diabetes recipe book and a Plate Method placemat.
The program costs $40 per person or $55 per couple. Scholarships are available, and many health insurers reimburse.
