MIFFLINBURG - Tennis players turned out to compete in the 17th annual Burke P. Derr/Karl A. Servinsky Memorial Tennis Tournament held last week.

Scott Stieler, of Lewisburg, won the men's singles title. Stieler won over Peter Csernica, also from Lewisburg, 10-7. Csernica finished second, and Lewisburg's Jim King won third in a 7-4 tie break match over Shu Xu, of Bloomsburg.

For the second year in a row, Bill Shambaugh, of Harrisburg, and Matt Ludwig, of Selinsgrove, won first place open doubles.

Ludwig and Shambaugh met Loyalsock's Jay Moore and Rick Zimmerman in the finals. Both teams were undefeated in the double-elimination tourney, and Ludwig/Shambaugh downed the Loyalsock duo in two matches, 8-4 and 6-2.

Third place honors went to Lewisburg's Peter Csernica and Bob McCormack.

Sponsors for the tournament included Sherwin Williams, Termites Plus, Servinsky Engineering, Pepsi, Weis Markets, and Roger's Trophies. Proceeds benefit Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI).

PACFI is an independent, nonprofit, all volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that provides services and supports to Pennsylvania individuals and families affected by cystic fibrosis (CF) and funds CF research.
