SHAMOKIN - The annual duck drop has been moved from Sunday to Saturday,

The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce hosts the duck drop in cooperation with the North American Railcar Operators Association. Because of work on the North Shore Railroad, the association was required to change the date.

The speeder and put-put cars will be in downtown Shamokin prior to the duck drop, between 11 a.m. and noon.

Starting at 12:30 p.m., the ducks will be dropped in the Shamokin Creek behind the OIP Restaurant in Shamokin. The race will end at the Claude Kehler Community Park where representatives of the chamber and Shamokin Creek Restoration Alliance will catch the ducks and determine the winner.

The purchase of one $5 ticket buys one rubber duck to race down the Shamokin Creek. There will be three top prizes for the fastest ducks of $300, $200 and $100. Tickets will be sold the day of the event.

The chamber thanked the prize sponsors: GiGi's, the Housing Authority of Northumberland County, Coal Township commissioners, Shamokin Aikido, The Center for Movement Arts, Olvany Insurance Agency, Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Academy Sports Center, Chris and Tara Venna, M&T Bank, Family Home Medical, VNA, Steve Minker and Harry Morgan, and Pamela Brennan Burns and David Burns.
