HERNDON - A three-vehicle accident sent a truck and trailer hauling a small log cabin through guardrail and down an embankment Saturday on Route 147 about two miles south of here.
The crash, about one mile north of the Route 225 intersection, closed the highway between Mandata and Herndon for several hours.
The left front of the white truck hauling the cabin was lodged into the ground as the vehicle straddled tiny Fiddler's Run about 10 feet off the east berm of the highway. The trailer - the log cabin still intact on top of it - was hanging over the 5-foot embankment but still partially on the highway.
A short distance north, a Dodge Ram pickup truck sat against the guardrail on the same side of the highway, its rear axle and wheels torn from its driver's side. Further north, the third vehicle, an SUV that suffered heavy rear-end damage, sat against guardrail on the other side of the highway.
One person reportedly suffered minor injuries and, after initially refusing treatment, was convinced he should visit the hospital.
State police at Stonington responded, but had not provided any further details about the crash as of Saturday night.
